These two common darters were found by a pool mating. When dragonflies mate, the male (the front of the tandem, here) grabs the female at the neck with clasps at his bottom end. The female brings her back end up to the underside of the wings of the male where he will clear out her passage and deliver his sperm. After that they head to a pool where the female will deposit the fertilised eggs into the water, which is what was happening here. This involves some impressive flying by the tandem pair to allow the female to dip her rear end in the pool.

I thought it would make a change from all the night shots to have something I took back in the Botanical Gardens at University. Again taken with my 300mm manual lens. I have slightly updated my about page with some pointless statistics, for those of you who like stats. I guess it is one of the reasons for rolling my own blog - I know how it works and can do stuff to it when I want. Apologies for the problems some people had in IE6 recently (it is a known bug of IE) but it should now look ok. Again, any problems, or suggestions for my photos, please let me know.
