Knowlton Church III

Knowlton Church III < PreviousNext >
This is Knowlton Church standing in a pagan earth circle in the countryside in East Dorset. This photo is lit by a three-quarter waxing gibbous moon. To the left of the tower the bright star is Vega, the star of the Jodie Foster film Contact. It is part of the constellation of Lyra, which is made up of Vega, the star directly above it, and the four stars to the left of it that form a parallelogram (see right). It represents a harp-like instrument called a lyre, that Hermes, the son of Zeus, created for his half-brother Apollo, or so the myths go.

Wow ! I love this one. Great composition with the old building in front and the lovely bright stars in the background. EXCELLENT !

Oops, slight loss of keyboard control there :-) Love this picture, great series of night shots, your skies are great with all the stars so clearly visible.

Beautiful shot! Love the lighting, the Church really stands out strong and impressive. The fact that you captured the stars in so much detail and can provide so much info on them is a big Plus. Living in London, the Moon is about the only thing visible in the night skies (well, most of the time). Just letting you know it's appreciated. - [Chuks]

Beautiful and educational. Thanks.

I am loving these night shots. Great subject and rather eerie. Like the fast show "These shots are brillllliant!"
