Buff-Tip Moth (Phalera bucephala)

Buff-Tip Moth (Phalera bucephala) < PreviousNext >
This morning, while checking the oil on the car, I noticed this Buff-Tip Moth (Phalera bucephala) sitting on the wall of our house. We had lots of Buff-Tip Caterpillar's feeding on the willow in our garden, so maybe this one is newly hatched. They fly in June and July and look remarkably like a broken silver birch twig. I moved the moth from the wall to a less prominent position in a bush and took some photos.

This insect is very well designed. As you say just like a silver birch twig, I think it would be very easy to miss one of these in their natural environment.
